Lydia is a 63-year-old woman from Uganda. Lydia used to work as a subsistence farmer before she had several hernia operations and doctors recommended that she avoid activities that could cause her to develop additional hernias in the future. In order to support herself, Lydia weaves baskets for sale. In her free time, Lydia enjoys visiting friends and relatives, walking around her vegetable garden, and attending church.
Lydia has suffered from abdominal pain for the last eighteen years. Her doctor diagnosed her with multiple uterine fibroids and recommended that Lydia undergo a hysterectomy in order to relieve her pain.
On August 25, Lydia will undergo a hysterectomy procedure at Bwindi Community Hospital, our medical partner’s care center. Our medical partner, The Kellermann Foundation, has requested $321 to fund Lydia’s treatment, which will cover a five-night hospital stay, labs, medication, supplies, and physician time. Lydia is grateful to the Watsi donors for supporting her treatment and looks forward to resuming weaving baskets after her procedure.
