Yong is a 64-year-old farmer with two sons, three daughters, and many grandchildren. He lives with his wife who also works as a farmer. When he is not out in the fields, he likes to listen to the monks pray and to the news on the radio.
Five years ago, Yong developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him to have an unsteady gait, blurry vision, and sensitivity to light. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Yong learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for four and a half hours seeking treatment. On December 6th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Yong shared, “I hope after surgery I will see well again. I can go to the rice field to feed my family and go to the pagoda by myself again.”
