Rin is a 45-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. She has four sons, and enjoys Khmer television dramas and following the news in her spare time.
Four years ago, Rin developed a cataract in each eye, causing her vision loss. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Rin learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On January 8th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
“I hope that I will be able to help take care of my family again and can return to my work to make money to support my family, and be able to make Khmer cakes for selling,” she said.

Rin underwent cataract surgery.
Rin has returned home after a successful operation. As per her doctor’s instructions, she had one eye done, and will need to return to have surgery on her other eye. Surgery allows her to work and go about her daily life with improved vision. Her doctor looks forward to seeing her again in a couple weeks.
“I am so glad I can see everything clearly after my eye surgery. Now, I can help my family make dinner, and I can earn some money by making and selling Khmer cakes. I am able to go anyplace I want to on my own again,” Rin told us.
