Kanha is a 21-year-old woman from Cambodia who lives with her family. She has three brothers and two sisters who also still live at home with their parents. Because of an unknown birth condition, she does not speak, so she has never attended school. She occasionally helps out her family by harvesting fruit from local orchards to earn extra income. On March 4th, Kanha fell from a mango tree while collecting fruit and injured her back. She experiences severe pain in her neck and back and is unable to walk. Her family took her to a local provincial hospital, but they could not pay for her care. Instead, the doctors recommended that the family drive four hours to the capital city of Phnom Penh for treatment. She has been diagnosed with a fractured spin and requires surgery. Fortunately, our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), is helping Kanha receive treatment. On March 10th, doctors at CSC will perform a spinal laminectomy with metal implants to stabilize her spinal column. A laminectomy enlarges the spinal canal to relieve pressure on the spinal cord. Now, Kanha and her family need help raising $1,500 to fund her procedure and care. The cost includes hospitalization, surgery, implants, physical therapy, and medications. After recovery, Kanha's pain should improve significantly, and she should have full mobility after four to eight weeks. Kanha's mother shared, "we hope after surgery, my daughter will no longer be in pain and will be able to walk."

Nikay is a cheerful, five-year-old girl living in Kampong Speu province, Cambodia, with her parents and younger brother. Her father works for a construction company and her mother is a garlic farmer. Nikay is in her last year of preschool and will start kindergarten in the autumn. She loves painting, drawing, playing with her brother, and learning to write the Khmer alphabet. For the last four years, Nikay has been experiencing sore throats and difficulty swallowing. Frequent illness has caused her to miss school and keeps her from being able to play with her friends. Nikay was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which, if not treated, will cause her symptoms to persist, and possibly intensify over time. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $265 to fund a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for Nikay, which is scheduled to take place on May 3rd, at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre. Surgeons will remove her tonsils and adenoids, relieving Nikay of her symptoms, and helping her to live much more comfortably. Her parents shared: "We just want our daughter to grow up with good health."

Saron is a 61-year-old security guard from Kompong Chhnang in Cambodia. He is married and has four sons, four daughters, and sixteen grandchildren. His wife sells prahok, a fermented fish paste sauce sometimes called "Cambodian cheese." Most of his children help support the family by working at garment factories. In his free time, Saron enjoys listening to the news on the radio. About one year ago, Saron developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so he cannot go out on his own. When Saron learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), he traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On May 2nd, doctors will perform cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. CSC is requesting $253 to fund this procedure. Saron said: "I hope I can see more clearly for my work and be less scared to drive my motorbike."
