Deth is a 63-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. He is married and has two sons, two daughters, and two grandchildren. Deth lives with his wife, who is also a farmer. In his free time, he likes to listen to the news on the radio.
One year ago, Deth developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him sensitivity to light, tearing, and blurry vision. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so he is not able to go places on his own.
When Deth learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On November 17th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery, and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help raising $253 to fund his procedure and care.
Deth shared, “I hope I can see well enough to recognize faces and get around on my own.”

Deth underwent cataract surgery to improve his vision.
Deth was concerned he would have poor vision for the rest of his life until his relatives told him about Children’s Surgical Centre. He was able to return home the day after his surgery. This has restored his self-esteem because he can return to being the primary breadwinner for his family again.
Deth’s wife said: “it was hard for Deth because he could not see well enough to manage the crops or go outside. With better eyesight, he is more independent. He can see the TV to watch his favorite programs and do things for himself. Thank you to the donors who support the hospital so that people like my husband can have better lives with better eyesight.”
