Phyoe is a five-year-old boy from Burma. His mother has passed away and Phyoe now lives with his father. The village where Phyoe and his father live has been caught in the fighting between the Burmese military and a rebel group. On March 2nd, 2024, an artillery shell hit Phyoe's home. He sustained severe injuries, necessitating the amputation of his right arm. Since the amputation, Phyoe has experienced numerous complications that cause him severe pain. Doctors have recommended stump revision surgery, to prevent Phyoe's symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund Phyoe's surgery, scheduled for September 27th. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow Phyoe to live more comfortably. Phyoe's father said: “I feel sorry for my son, but he is mentally strong. He plays with his toys, laughs, and talks a lot to me. He even practices writing with his left hand, since he is right-handed. His strength gives me hope. I want to thank Watsi for helping my son get the treatment he needs. My son is also thankful. Once he recovers, I am determined to work hard and ensure he gets a great education.”

Orn is a 62-year-old woman from Cambodia. She lives with her younger sister, brother-in-law, their three children, and her five-year-old grandchild. Her sister and brother-in-law work as waste collectors to help support the family. Orn takes care of her grandson and looks after the house. Two weeks ago, Orn began noticing redness and swelling in her left hand. She was diagnosed with cellulitis, a bacterial infection affecting the skin and underlying tissues, which causes pain, swelling, and redness. Without treatment, cellulitis can spread and threaten the surrounding tissue. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is helping Orn to receive the care that she needs. On June 5th, surgeons at our medical partner's care center, Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre, will perform a debridement procedure to remove the damaged and infected tissue from her hand. Orn's family is able to contribute $100 but needs $224 more to fund this procedure. After surgery, Orn hopes that she can return to her everyday activities without pain.

Tatenda is a three-year-old baby from Malawi. She is the youngest in a family of three children. Tatenda lives with her parents, who own a local grocery shop, and two older brothers. Due to the economic conditions in Malawi, their business is struggling to generate sufficient income. As a result, they find it difficult to pay for rent and other necessities at home. Tatenda's mother reports that they earn less than $50 a month in revenue from their business. Earlier this year, Tatenda was diagnosed with an umbilical hernia. The condition has negatively impacted both Tatenda and her parents. Tatenda is unable to consistently attend school, and her parents struggle to open their shop regularly because they need to care for her. Surgery is the only recommended treatment, but Tatenda has been on the waiting list for a long time, prompting her parents to take her to our medical partner's care center, Partners in Hope Medical Center, for urgent attention. The surgery will significantly improve Tatenda's life, allowing her to attend school consistently and allow her parents to dedicate their full attention to their business, which should help with covering their expenses and necessities. On July 16th, she will undergo hernia repair surgery and our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $575 to fund the procedure. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow her to live more comfortably and confidently.
