Justus is a 39-year-old father of two from Uganda. Justus and his wife are dancers in a traditional dancing group, and they earn their living by dancing for tourists. In his free time Justus makes animal carvings from wood. They have three children who all go to a local primary school.
One year ago, Justus was hit by a speeding motorcyclist while walking home with his colleagues at night. He was rushed to the hospital, and found with a broken left tibia bone into segmented tibia and fibula fractures, and sustained other injuries. Justus’s leg was set in a cast, but his tibial fracture was healed in a deformed position called a malunion. Justus tells us that he misses dancing and is unable to earn an income with his malunion.
Our medical partner, Kellermann Foundation, can perform an osteotomy and an external fixation to have his left tibia bone aligned for recovery. The total cost for his surgery is $534, and covers the procedure, supplies, physiotherapy, and three weeks of inpatient care. “We expect this surgery will lead to an improved quality of life for Justus,” his medical team shares, “and put him back on both his legs so he can work to support his family.”
He hopes to continue dancing after his recovery and teach his sons their traditional dances. These dances and songs help remind them about their culture and heritage.
“I want to thank everyone who makes my treatment and operation possible,” Justus shares, “May God bless you.”
