Ream is a 79-year-old woman living in Cambodia. To support herself and her family, Ream works as a food vendor selling steamed banana sticky rice. Ream is married with one son, two daughters, and four grandchildren. In her free time she likes to watch the news on TV.
About three years ago, Ream began to experience blurred vision and irritation in both of her eyes. Doctors diagnosed her with pterygium, the growth of pink tissue in the eye. Ream’s faltering eyesight has made it difficult for her to work and makes her uncomfortable going anywhere on her own. Doctors have recommended that she have eye surgery to remove the excess tissue.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $201 to fund Ream’s eye surgery, which will take place on June 20. The surgery will eliminate the pain in Ream’s eyes and allow her to regain her independence.
