Meet Laxmi, a 16-year-old girl who lives in Nepal with her father and three siblings. “Laxmi is a keen student. She loves reading Nepali literature,” shares our medical partner, Possible.
After an accident in the forest to cut wood for cooking fire, Laxmi fell from a tree, breaking her right hand and fracturing both her wrists. “Not only have her hands swollen and she has been in pain since, but she has a high fever too,” Possible explains. “She cannot go to school, do house chores or basic activities on her own.”
Possible shares, “Her father occasionally migrates to India for work and the rest of the family depends on farming to make ends meet.”
$224 in funding will provide Laxmi with the fracture treatment she needs. Laxmi’s fracture will be assessed and her bones will be properly aligned and casted. “The treatment will align Laxmi’s bones correctly and heal properly. In about a month’s time, with some physiotherapy, she will be able to do most of the activities that she used to before.”
Laxmi’s father shares, “She is most enthusiastic about going back to school after her treatment.”
