Kim is a 71-year-old retired rice farmer. She is from Kandal province in Cambodia, and has one son and two grandchildren. Currently, she lives with her son who is a construction worker. Her husband passed away many years ago. Some of her favorite activities include joining ceremonies at her local pagoda and cooking for her grandchildren. Two years ago, Kim developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurry vision, light sensitivity, and tearing. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so is not able to go places on her own. When Kim learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On December 8th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and place an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $253 procedure. She said: "I hope my vision improves and I can get around easily by myself. I want to be able to help care for my grandchildren and walk to the pagoda by myself."

Emmanuel, who is 19 years old, is the third born in a family of five children. He lives in Kansau village in Kenya. While Emmanuel was healthy at birth, when he was four or five years old, he began to experience convulsions. His parents brought him to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he was diagnosed with hemiplegic CP, a condition where the brain has been impacted and results in the paralysis of one side of the body. In addition, Emmanuel has clubfoot of his left foot, which makes it difficult for him to wear shoes and to walk easily. Fortunately, Emmanuel traveled to visit our medical partner's care center, AIC Cure International Hospital. There, surgeons will perform clubfoot repair surgery on January 16th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,286 to fund Emmanuel's clubfoot repair. After treatment, he will be able to walk more easily, and to resume his vocational studies classes at Machakos School, which he so enjoys. Emmanuel said: “I would love to see my foot corrected so that I can continue with my studies and start my business in the future.”

Loyce is a social and loving 46-year-old wife and mother of six. She had to drop out of school in grade 12 and could not realize her dream of becoming a banker, because her parents could not afford to keep her in school. She is determined to fully educate all her children. Loyce is now a businesswoman who operates a small retail shop in a trading center. A sole proprietorship, it barely generates enough revenue to cater to the family's basic needs and pay her children's school fees. Her husband is a motorcycle taxi driver.  For the past 9 months, Loyce has been experiencing severe lower abdominal pain, backache and vaginal bleeding. She visited a hospital in the region, and treatment was recommended. Since the couple could not afford to pay for the surgery, Loyce had no option but to live with the condition. Recently, the pain has become unbearable, and she visited Nyakibale Hospital and was examined by a gynecologist. She has been diagnosed with premalignant cervical lesion, and needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $219 to fund Loyce's surgery. On November 8th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner's care center. Once recovered, Loyce will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Loyce says: “I have truly experienced a lot of pain; I hate it so much, I've always had financial problems, but with your help, I believe that I'll be able to have my surgery and, with God's help, hopefully, recover.”
