Meet Liza, an 8-year-old girl living in Cambodia. “Liza is a 3rd grade student and an only child,” says our medical partners, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC). In her free time outside of school, she enjoys drawing pictures.
“Liza was born with esotropia of her left eye,” explains CSC . This is a condition in which one or both eyes turns inward, making the patient partially cross-eyed. Liza’s esotropia makes it difficult for her to see clearly and affects her self-esteem. “This makes her shy around her friends at school,” continues CSC.
For $290, Liza can undergo strabismus correction surgery, receive the necessary medications, and stay at the hospital for three days. CSC expects that after the procedure, “Liza’s eye will be realigned and she can return to her 3rd grade studies feeling confident about her appearance.”

Liza received successful surgery to align her eyes.
After eight years of living with estropia, Liza no longer has crossed eyes. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), performed strabismus correction surgery in which they realigned her eye. Liza can now see clearly and feels confident. She says, “I feel so happy that my eye is good looking like other people’s now and I’m not going to be shy around my friends anymore.” Liza has been instructed to apply eye drops four times per day to prevent from infection.
Liza and her family are very grateful for the surgery and support. Her mom says, “I feel very happy that my daughter’s eye is good looking and straight like the other kids. I’m not worried about her eyes having any problems anymore. I am very thankful to the doctors and donors who helped Liza have surgery to correct her eye.”
