Vuthy is a 37-year-old construction worker living in Cambodia with his wife and two sons. He likes to go fishing in the lake with his friends and watch boxing on TV in his free time.
Vuthy was in a traffic accident on January 23, 2013, causing a fracture of his right tibia. He went to a hospital for treatment, and doctors performed an open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) procedure to stabilize his fracture and allow for proper healing. More recently, Vuthy has been experiencing pain at the site of the ORIF procedure. He traveled with his wife to our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, for further evaluation.
An ORIF procedure often involves the insertion of steel rods, screws, or plates to keep a fracture stable during healing. Vuthy’s surgeons recommended having the hardware in his right tibia removed to relieve him of his pain. The hardware removal surgery costs $143 and covers imaging, medications, and two days of inpatient care. His surgery is scheduled for April 21.
Surgeons at CSC will remove the hardware from Vuthy’s right tibia to relieve him of his pain and allow him to feel comfortable again. Vuthy will then be able to return to work more easily.
