Lin is a 42-year-old tuk tuk driver from Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He is married with one son and one daughter. Lin recently started driving a tuk tuk for a local app-based transportation company. In his free time, he likes to take walks with his family and listen to music on his phone. Ten years ago, Lin developed a pterygium in his right eye, causing him to experience itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. Pterygiums are non-cancerous growths of the conjunctiva, a mucous layer that lubricates the eye. The growths occur when the conjunctiva is exposed to excessive sun damage, and the cells grow abnormally over the pupil. As a result, he has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, working, and going outside. When Lin learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), he traveled for an hour seeking treatment. On September 6th, Lin will undergo a surgical procedure to remove the abnormal conjunctiva from the cornea surface and replace it with a conjunctival graft to prevent recurrence. The total cost of his procedure is $225, which covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care for two days. Lin shared, "I hope, after surgery, my eye won't bother me so I can drive my tuk tuk more and support my family."

Annizabelle is an 11-year-old fifth-grader who lives with her parents and three siblings in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Her father is a mechanic, and her mother is a vendor. Anizabelle has a cardiac condition called rheumatic mitral regurgitation. One of the valves in her heart is severely damaged due to an infection she suffered earlier in her childhood. As a result, her heart is unable to adequately pump blood through her body, leaving her weak and short of breath. Fortunately, our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance (HCA), is helping Annizabelle receive treatment. Annizabelle and her family will fly to the Dominican Republic, where she will undergo cardiac surgery at Hospital CEDIMAT on August 8th. During the surgery, doctors will attempt to repair her existing valve. If they cannot repair the valve, they will remove it, and implant an artificial replacement. HCA is contributing $9,000 to pay for the surgery. Now Annizabelle and her family need help to cover the $1,500 for the pre-surgical prep, lab tests, medicines and post operative follow up visits. In addition, this sum will pay for the passports for the social workers who will accompany the family overseas. Annizabelle's mother said: "Our family is praying that this surgery will be a success so that our daughter can get back to focusing on school and the rest of her life."

Tharith is a 38-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. He lives with his wife, who is a construction worker, and their three children. At home, he likes to watch the news and chat with his neighbors. Tharith has had ear issues since he was a child. Over time, he has lost hearing in both ears, making it difficult for him to communicate with others. Recently, he experienced an ear infection that caused the eardrum in his left ear to perforate. This has led to increased pain as well as tinnitus, sometimes affecting Tharith's ability to work on the farm. Tharith traveled to our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, to receive treatment. On March 14th, he will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in his left ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. CSC is requesting $487 to fund the procedure, medications, supplies, and inpatient care. Tharith said, "I hope my ear will get better, my hearing will improve. I am afraid this illness might give me brain problems."
