Sokha is a lively elderly widow with two daughters, four sons, and many grandchildren. Her husband passed away many years ago, so she lives with her oldest son, who works in the same rice fields where she and her husband used to make their living. When she is at home, she enjoys listening to the monks pray on the radio.
Two years ago, Sokha developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her tearing and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces. She is also worried about falling when she walks, so she is not able to go places on her own.
When Sokha learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On March 9th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Sokha shared, “I hope after surgery I can see well. I can go outside and can take care of myself well. I am an old woman, but I like to go to the market and visit the pagoda in our village.”
