Srey Pov is a 16-year-old girl from Cambodia. She is in the tenth grade and has two sisters and three brothers. She likes to read school books, watch TV, and cook in her free time.
In January 2017, Srey Pov fell off her motorbike, causing both an abrasion on her face and malocclusion. This means that her upper jaw and teeth severely overlap her bottom jaw and teeth. She went to the local hospital for treatment, but her symptoms did not improve. It is difficult for Srey Pov to eat, and she is in constant pain.
She traveled for six hours with her mother to reach our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, for treatment. Surgeons there will perform an open reduction internal fixation procedure and fixate a plate in Srey Pov’s jaw to allow her to eat easily again. The treatment is scheduled for February 24. Our medical partner is requesting $411 for the surgery and hospital costs.

Srey Pov underwent surgery on her jaw.
Srey Pov’s treatment for her jaw went well. Surgeons at CSC reduced fibrous tissue at the fracture site, then fixated a plate on her right side and on her left side for stabilization. Following the procedure, she was given pain medication, and she was provided wound care at CSC. She also had physiotherapy for two weeks before being discharged. Srey Pov is now able to eat and drink more easily than before.
Srey Pov says, “I thank all of the staff and doctors for helping me. Now I can eat rice and drink water better and without pain. Thank you.”
