Ret is a 57-year-old farmer from Cambodia. She has eight siblings and many of her family members live near her. Ret lives with her niece, who operates a shop next to a local bus station. After she harvests her crops, Ret brings her goods to her niece’s shop and they work together. She is also an active member of her religious community and enjoys reading books on religion and talking with others about it.
Three years ago, Ret developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurry vision, irritation and tearing, as well as photophobia. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Ret learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for two-and-a-half hours by taxi seeking treatment. On December 11th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and place an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Ret shared, “I am glad I can get this surgery. It is difficult to go places by myself, and I need to visit the pagodas and do farm work. After this procedure, I can travel and help my niece sell cake and other things at her shop.”
