Nester is an eight-month-old boy from rural Guatemala. He is an energetic baby and loves playing with his older brother and their toy car. His favorite foods are chayote squash and banana.
Doctors have diagnosed Nester with malnutrition. In the short term, this means that his growth is stunted and his immune system is weak, leaving him vulnerable to illness. If left untreated, he will also face long-term consequences, such as increased risk of chronic illness and low brain function.
“We are grateful for this help that our son will receive,” Nester’s mother says.
Our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq, is requesting $492 to cover the cost of food and supplements, as well as regular visits from community health workers. Nester is scheduled to begin treatment on May 25 through our medical partner’s care center, Clinic Tecpán. With growth monitoring and micronutrient and food supplements, Nester will recover, gain weight, grow taller, and catch up with other children his age.
