Kakada is a 33-year-old tuk tuk driver from Cambodia. He is married, has two sons, and one daughter. He lives with his wife and children and likes listening to music on his phone.
Two months ago, Kakada developed an early cataract in his left eye eye, causing him vision loss and photophobia. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going outside independently.
When Kakada learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On May 6th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Kakada said, “After my vision gets better, I want to sell vegetables at the market and continue my work driving my tuk tuk.”

Kakada underwent sight-restoring eye surgery.
Kakada’s surgery was successful! His doctors removed the cataract in his left eye that was causing him vision loss and photophobia. He can now see clearly and go anywhere outside. He will also be able to see his wife, two sons and daughter. His quality of life has improved significantly and he can now continue driving his tuk tuk (motorcycle taxi). He was discharged from our medical partner’s care facility with eye drops and has been scheduled for a followup appointment at their clinic.
“I was worried about my eye problem, but this operation went so well. Now, I will definitely start driving my tuk tuk again and in a few months I will be able to plant my vegetables to sell at the market to support my family,” Kakada shared.
