Sopheaset is a five-year-old kindergartener from Cambodia. He lives at home with his parents and his three siblings. His mother is a housewife and his father is in the army. He is the youngest child, with one older sister and two older brothers. Currently, Sopheaset is in kindergarten, where he enjoys singing and music class. When he grows up, he wants to be a teacher. His favorite meal is candy and durian. In his free time, Sopheaset enjoys playing with toy cars and watching cartoons with his siblings.
Since birth, Sopheaset has had a large congenital mole on his right cheek, which is a lesion appearing as a dark-colored, hairy patch of skin. Over time, the mole has increased in size and become slightly darker. Due to the condition, Sopheaset feels uncomfortable about his facial appearance and experiences feelings of being stigmatized by friends.
Sopheaset and his mother traveled to our medical partner’s care center to receive treatment. On June 12th, surgeons at Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), will remove the mole. The family is able to contribute $100 towards his medical costs, but needs help raising the remaining $173 to fund the procedure.
Sopheaset’s mother says, “I hope that after treatment my son will feel better, and do well in school.”
