A mother and grandmother, fifty five year old Delgitay lives an industrious life with her children and grandchildren. She works with women in a local business creating beriberi (a traditional Ethiopian spice), cuts grass to sell to other people, and prepares cotton to be used in making traditional Ethiopian clothing. Keeping this busy is becoming more difficult, as her medical condition has begun to affect her daily life.
Delgitay has uterine prolapse, a condition in which the muscles and connective tissue holding the uterus within the abdominal cavity become weak. This causes the uterus to fall out of its proper position, resulting in abdominal pressure and reduced mobility for the patient. Though Delgitay has lived with this condition for many years, recently she has had increasing problems with her normal activities.
Delgitay’s providers are working to schedule her surgery for Wednesday, May 1st! Her surgery (a hysterectomy with anterior and posterior support for the cervix) will cost $110. Her hospital stay will cost $60. The remaining $40 will cover the cost of incidental expenses. Our support will allow Delgitay to return to her normal life, working hard for her family and community.
