Sarorn is a 63-year-old farmer from Cambodia. She is married with four sons and three daughters. In her free time, she enjoys looking after her grandchildren.
For the last two years, Sarorn has experienced pain and swelling in her left knee due to tuberculous arthritis. Over the past two months, the pain has worsened, preventing her from walking.
A relative told Sarorn about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC). She traveled with her son to CSC for a consultation. On January 24, surgeons will perform an arthrodesis procedure on Sarorn’s left knee. The joint fusion surgery will relieve her of pain and allow her to walk more easily. CSC is requesting $450 to fund her care.

Sarorn underwent successful knee surgery.
Surgeons at CSC performed a debridement procedure to remove infected tissue and bone from her left knee. They then performed an osteotomy to cut off the ends of her femur and tibia in order to correctly align her bones. Lastly, they performed a fusion of her knee by fixating two cross pins and a screw to hold her bones together.
Following the procedure, she was given pain medication, and she was instructed to keep her left leg elevated to prevent swelling. Her wounds have healed nicely, and she does not experience pain. Sarorn is now able to walk more easily than before.
Sarorn says, “I now feel more comfortable with my knee after the surgery. I don’t experience pain, and I will work again.”
