Sophy is a 49-year-old farmer from Cambodia.
When he was six years old, Sophy developed an ear infection that spread to both ears, resulting in major damage. He experiences ear discharge, hearing loss, and ringing in his ear. Sophy is worried about his ear disease. He used to be a teacher, but since he lost his hearing, he stopped teaching and returned to farming.
Sophy traveled six hours with his nephew to reach our medical partner’s hospital, Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre, for treatment. On March 29, he will receive a myringoplasty on both years. The surgery will cost $831.
After the surgery, Sophy’s hearing will improve over time. Hopefully, he will be able to return to teaching.

Sophy underwent ear surgery.
Sophy’s treatment for his right ear was a success. Following the procedure, he was given ear drops to take for two weeks to prevent bacterial infections. Sophy is doing well, and he will return to CSC for the same operation on his left ear.
Sophy says, “I am really happy because I think my ear is healed and I won’t have any more ear discharge. I look forward to going back to work.”
