Sokphat is a 62-year-old loving grandmother. She resides in Phnom Penh province, sharing a household with her elderly husband, daughter, son-in-law, and three grandchildren. The family’s limited income derives from the efforts of her daughter, who sells noodles, and her son-in-law’s work in construction. All three grandchildren are enrolled in local schools.
In August 2023, Sokphat was involved in a motorbike accident, and fractured her right tibia. She visited a local hospital for care, where she had plates and screws implanted to support the healing of her multiple fractures. The fractures have healed, and the hardware is no longer needed and risks future infection.
Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, can help. On January 8th, Sokphat will undergo a hardware removal procedure at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre, which will cost $304. Sokphat would like the metal hardware removed so that she can be more mobile, and better able to help her daughter.
Sokphat said: “I hope that there will be no pain, and that I will walk well again after surgery.”
