Sambo is a mother of five from Cambodia. She is a rice farmer and has two sons, three daughters, and many grandchildren. Sambo lives with her fourth daughter who is a garment worker. Sambo likes to listen to the news and the monks praying on the radio.
One year ago, Sambo developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurry vision, irritation, photophobia and sometimes tearing. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Sambo learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for two and a half hours with her son-in-law seeking treatment. On December 16th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Sambo said, “I want to be independent again and go to the rice field with clear sight.”
