Chanthou is a 24-year-old delivery man for a local camping accessory store. He has four siblings and lives with his older sister in Phnom Penh. Chanthou's parents and other siblings work as vegetable farmers in the province. At home, he likes to listen to music with his sister. In 2021, Chanthou fell off his motorbike and fractured the bone on his lower left leg. He went to a local clinic where surgeons fixated hardware on his tibia to assist in healing his fracture. Now, the fracture has healed but the hardware is uncomfortable and it is difficult for him to walk. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On March 12th, Chanthou will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will cost $304. The removal of hardware will complete the rehabilitation of his leg. Chanthou shared, "I want to make sure my leg is strong so I can work well and have no infection and no pain."

Ireen is a 24-year-old single mother from Malawi. To support her family, Ireen grows maize. While fetching firewood, Ireen fell and fractured her elbow. Because of the pain, she is unable to perform daily tasks and work on the farm. If left untreated, it may result in the non-union of the fractured bone. She is scheduled for surgery on March 12th and our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $525 for her surgery and care. Treatment will relieve Ireen of the pain and help her resume working on her farm again. Ireen says, “I hope to receive treatment so that I can take care of my child.”

Jannifer is the second-born child in a family of two. She lost both her parents in a road traffic accident when she was four years old. She was the only survivor of the accident. After her parent's burial, she stayed with her grandmother in the village until she started having abdominal pains and was taken in by her aunt for proper care and support. The aunt is a single mother of 4 children aged 20 (twins),16 and 6. Beatrice, the aunt, separated from her husband, who does not render support so she works as a driver and uses her income to support the children. They live in a two-bedroom rented house with water and electricity. For four years, Jannifer has had abdominal pains originating from the umbilical region. This has affected her studies as she keeps missing school attendance. Jannifer has now been diagnosed with a hernia, and fortunately, she is eligible for surgery which can cure her condition. Her aunt looks forward to a successful surgery that would enable Jannifer to concentrate on her school. She said she could not wait to see Jennifer continue to excel in life as a loving and beautiful girl. Jannifer said, “I don’t like the pain because it hurts,” and Beatrice, her aunt said, "Kindly help my daughter because I want her to live happily.”
