Talina is a mother of two children from Malawi. Her older son works in construction, and the youngest is in school. Talina’s husband works as a mechanic while she sells second-hand clothes. Talina likes chatting with the family and enjoys eating chips served with fish. Since October 2023, Talina has been experiencing abdominal pains and bleeding. She has been diagnosed with huge uterine fibroids and needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. She was scheduled for surgery at a nearby hospital, but due to a long wait list, the surgery was never done. Her condition worsened, affecting her business as she spent more time at home or visiting hospitals. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, can help. They are requesting $1,363 to fund Talina's surgery. On July 6th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner's care center, Partners in Hope Medical Center. Once recovered, Talina will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Talina said, “I am so happy to have been considered for financial support. I have hope that the surgery will restore my health enabling me to live a healthy life again and resume my business afterward.”

Junior is a 43-year-old man from Haiti. He lives with his wife and three daughters and travels throughout the country for his work as an air-conditioning installation technician. Junior has a cardiac condition called rheumatic aortic regurgitation. One of the four valves of his heart no longer opens and closes properly as a result of an infection that he suffered earlier in his life. As a result, his heart can no longer adequately pump blood through his body, leaving him weak and short of breath. Junior will fly to the United States to receive treatment. On August 26th, he will undergo cardiac surgery, during which Surgeons will remove his damaged valve and implant an artificial replacement. Another organization, Baylor Scott and White Heart Hospital, is contributing $28,000 to pay for surgery. Junior's family also needs help to fund the costs of surgery prep. Our medical partner, International Cardiac Alliance, is requesting $1,500 to cover labs, medicines, and checkup and follow-up appointments. It also supports securing travel documents and supporting social workers from our medical partner, who will accompany Junior's family overseas. Junior says, "My entire family is so happy to know that there is a chance for my heart to be fixed."

Philip is a five-year-old boy living in Cambodia with his family, which includes an older sister and a younger brother. His mother is a homemaker, while his father is a sculptor. Currently, Philip is in kindergarten, and his mother shares that he aspires to become a police officer in the future. Philip presented to our medical partner with short stature, deformity in both legs, and learning difficulties. Surgeons diagnosed him with achondroplasia, a condition characterized by disproportionate short stature, and various skeletal abnormalities, including worsening genu varum, or bowed legs. Philip has difficulty walking, and experiences discomfort, due to the deformities in his legs. Philip was brought to our medical partner's care center experiencing challenges with his legs and having learning difficulties. The surgeons identified that he has achondroplasia, a condition that affects his growth and leads to differences in his bone structure, including increasingly bowed legs. These leg issues make it hard for Philip to walk comfortably and cause him discomfort. Fortunately, our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), can help. On August 27th, surgeons at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform a procedure that aims to correct the alignment of his bowed legs, and improve his ability to walk. Philip's family is seeking assistance to fund the $521 procedure and post-op care. Philip's mother says, "I hope this procedure will help Philip walk more comfortably, allowing him to make his way to school and around the village with greater ease."
