An is a 30-year-old construction worker from Cambodia. He is part of a large family with five brothers and two sisters. When he has time off, he likes to watch boxing and football on TV and relax at home.
While at work, An’s right foot was punctured by a nail sticking out of the floor. The accident occurred in November 2016, and the wound has not healed. He experiences swelling, redness, and pus drainage. The pain has made it difficult for An to walk on his right foot.
Surgeons at our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), will perform an exploration procedure of the wound and remove any foreign body that may have entered. The procedure should provide powerful insight as to why the wound has been unable to heal naturally.
An looks forward to his procedure, scheduled for April 21. CSC is requesting $224 to fund his procedure. He hopes that he will once again be able to return to work.

An underwent a cyst removal.
An’s treatment went well. Surgeons did not find any foreign body, however, they did find some necrosis of tendon and soft tissue. They performed a debridement procedure to remove the damaged and infected tissue and a skin graft procedure to cover the wound. Following the procedure, he was given pain medication to take if needed. He had one week of physiotherapy at CSC before being discharged. His wounds have healed nicely and he does not experience any pain. An is now able to walk more easily than before.
An says, “I’m happy with the results. I feel better now and I can walk better too. I am able to do things by myself. Thanks to the staff for helping me. I will go back to work.”
