Yong is a 73-year-old woman with three daughters and many grandchildren. Her youngest daughter takes care of her and works as a farmer. Sadly, her husband passed away during the Khmer Rouge regime. She no longer works, so she spends most of her time with her grandchildren or participating in religious ceremonies at local pagodas.
Four years ago, Yong developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurry vision and sensitivity to light. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Yong learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On August 25th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Yong shared, “I hope I can see my grandchildren clearly after this surgery. I also hope that I can walk by myself so I can go to the pagoda easily.”
