Originally from Burma, Cherry is a 34-year-old woman who lives with her father's cousin and her two cousins in Tak Province, Thailand. Her two cousins are students, while Cherry is a homemaker. Her father's cousin runs her own small business, selling everything from makeup to food online or through her friends. They work hard to support their family. In the beginning of 2023, Cherry began to experience troubling symptoms, including swollen neck and discomfort when swallowing food. She was diagnosed with thyroid goiter. The thyroid is the gland located in front of your neck and produces thyroid hormones. These hormones are responsible for functions such as metabolism, growth and other bodily functions. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is helping Cherry receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on January 24th at Mae Sot General Hospital. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. She and her family need help raising $1,500 for her treatment. Cherry said, "I feel stressed about my condition. Since I heard that my family who lives in Burma have now become displaced, I have felt more stressed and I am worried about them. I want to get treatment and recover soon so that I can look for a job and support my family back home. Moriya is a 3-year-old toddler from Cambodia. She lives in Prey Veng province with her parents, grandmother, and 8-year-old brother. Both her mom and dad work in nearby clothing factories. Moriya's grandmother helps look after the children while her parents are at work. At home, Moriya likes running around the village with other kids, and eating fried noodles. On September 13, 2023, Moriya accidentally burned her left hand at home. Burn scar contractures have developed, tightening the skin around her burn. It is difficult for her to use her left hand due to the contractures, including playing with toys and carrying objects. When Moriya's family learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, they traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On February 6th, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to improve her hand function. She and her family need help to fund this $495 procedure. Her dad shared "I want her fingers to straighten out, so that I won't worry about her development and her future."

Sophearith is a 9-year-old student from Phnom Penh, Cambodia. His mother works as a tailor, and his father drives a TukTuk. Sophearith is the youngest in his family, with three older siblings. He is in the 4th grade and enjoys math and P.E. classes. In his free time, he likes to play soccer with his friends, and his dream is to become a professional soccer player one day! About seven months ago, Sophearith began experiencing difficulty breathing at night, snoring, sore throats, difficulty eating, and weight loss. The frequent illness is causing him to miss school. He was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which, if not treated, will cause his symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time. Fortunately, our medical partner is helping Sophearith undergo tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy surgery on April 8th. During the procedure, the surgeons will remove his tonsils and adenoids, hopefully relieving Sophearith of his symptoms and helping him live much more comfortably. Sophearith and his family contributed $100, but need an additional $265 to fund this procedure. Sophearith shared: "I hope I can feel better and breathe easier after my operation."
