Boeun is an active community leader in his village in Cambodia. He is married and has four sons, five daughters, and many grandchildren. He lives with his wife and his youngest son, who is a garment worker. When he is not addressing issues for the villagers in his community, he likes to read, and listen to the news and to the monks pray on the radio.
One year ago, Boeun developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him tearing and blurry vision. When Boeun learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for two and a half hours seeking treatment. On March 3rd, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery, and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Boeun shared, “after surgery, I hope my eye can see clearly. Then I can write letters, read books well and can go everywhere by myself.”

Boeun underwent cataract surgery to improve his vision.
Boeun was increasingly dependent on others due to his poor vision and felt he could not perform his community duties well. After his cataract surgery, he returned to his province where he will rest and heal at home. Boeun hopes to be more productive after his eye has healed completely, and looks forward to returning to his job as Village Chief.
Boeun’s son said: “I am relieved my father will see well again. He likes to walk to the pagoda by himself without being afraid he will fall. Thank you to the staff who fixed his eye and the people who paid for his surgery.”
