Jennifer is a single parent from the Philippines. Jennifer lives with her mother and son. She works as an office staff and serves as the main provider for her family. Her mother receives a small monthly pension and helps her with the family expenses. Jennifer loves doing household chores in her free time. One year ago, Jennifer began to experience troubling symptoms, including pain on the abdominal side of her body that affected her back. Jennifer was diagnosed with chronic calculous cholecystitis or gallstones. Jennifer has been advised to undergo a cholecystectomy, the surgical removal of the gallbladder. If left untreated, her symptoms will continue to worsen and put her at risk for further health complications. After seeking treatment through our medical partner, World Surgical Foundation Philippines (WSFP), Jennifer is scheduled to undergo a cholecystectomy on September 14th. A portion of the cost of the procedure is being supported by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and WSFP is raising the remaining $1,128 to cover the cost of Jennifer's surgery and care. Jennifer says "Thank you very much to all of you who will donate for my surgery. Thank you very much for your generosity. This will greatly affect our lives as I will be able to function better as a daughter and a mother."

Mao is a 26-year-old delivery driver from Cambodia. He lives in Pursat Province with his three siblings, his parents, and his niece. His parents work as rice farmers, and his siblings help support the family by working in various local jobs, including factory work and making deliveries for local shops and restaurants. In his free time, Mao enjoys playing soccer and raising cows in the fields behind the family's house. When he was nine years old, Mao had an ear infection. This infection caused a cholesteatoma, or an abnormal skin growth, to develop in the middle ear behind the ear drum. For this reason, Mao experiences recurrent left ear discharge, accompanied by dizziness and ringing in the ear. It is difficult for him to communicate with people, and he experiences chronic discomfort. Mao traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On June 3rd, he will undergo a mastoidectomy procedure in his left ear. During this procedure, ENT surgeons will remove the cholesteatoma. Mao can contribute $250 towards his medical care but needs assistance to raise $676 more to fund the procedure. Mao shared, "I hope my hearing will improve, and I can work without any pain or difficulty hearing my customers."

Ephantus is a 28-year-old security guard from Kenya. He is the sole breadwinner for his wife and their five-year-old child. His modest salary is not enough to cover the cost of a critical surgery. Raised by a single mother who is a farmer, and with an elder sister who works as a street vendor, Ephantus' family is unable to contribute the funds needed for his medical care. In May 2024, shortly after starting his job, Ephantus was involved in a workplace incident while directing cars in a hotel parking lot. When he asked a visitor to reposition a poorly parked car, the driver became enraged, deliberately drove into Ephantus, and ran over his right leg after he fell. The incident resulted in a severe ankle fracture, with bones exposed. Ephantus was rushed to a hospital, where he received immediate care and underwent surgery to have an internal fixation device inserted into his leg. Unfortunately, two days after his discharge, Ephantus’ leg began to swell and showed signs of infection. Ephantus underwent another surgery to remove the internal fixation device and began receiving regular treatment for his wound. Despite this, his leg has continued to suffer from recurring infections, and doctors have now recommended a skin graft surgery to aid in his recovery. Ephantus remains in pain, unable to walk properly or work to support his family. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, can help. On September 16th, Ephantus will undergo a debridement and skin graft procedure to relieve his pain, restore his mobility, and allow him to return to work. He needs help to fund this $1,185 surgery. Ephantus shared, “I am in so much pain and stressed because I’m away from my family, and no one is providing for them.”
