Sophy is a 49-year-old motor taxi driver. He is married and has one son and one grandchild. Sophy’s wife was a cleaner at a casino, but has unfortunately been out of work since the casino closed due to the pandemic. Their son works as a laborer where he can find work. Sophy does not drive his motor taxi as often anymore because of his poor vision. When he is at home, he enjoys listening to the radio.
Two years ago, Sophy developed a cataract in his right eye causing him blurry vision and tearing. When Sophy learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled there hoping for treatment. On October 11th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly and can get back to driving his taxi. Now, he needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Sophy shared, “I hope after surgery my eye can see clearly again so I can drive well to earn money to support my family.”
