Aisas is a 47-year-old housewife who is married with two daughters and two sons. She and her family live in Cambodia. Aisas likes to look after her children, clean her home, and cook for her family.
Aisas has been experiencing moderate hip pain on her left side for the past six months, and she has been unable to walk for the past three months. She was taken to a hospital in Phnom Penh, where doctors diagnosed her with avascular necrosis (AVN) of her left hip. AVN is a condition in which the bone tissue begins to die due to lack of blood flow. If left untreated, the bone will begin to develop tiny cracks, which will eventually lead to the collapse of the entire bone.
Surgeons at our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), will perform an arthroplasty procedure to relieve Aisas of her pain and help her to walk more easily again. An arthroplasty is the surgical replacement of a joint—in Aisas’s case, her hip. CSC is requesting $450 to fund the procedure.
Aisas looks forward to the pain relief, as well as regaining her independence and mobility.
