Vun is a 64 year-old loving grandmother. She lives in Prey Veng province with her husband. Both of them are retired rice farmers and their four children help support them by working in factories. Vun loves spending time with her eleven grandchildren and volunteering at the local temple. About five months ago, Vun developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so is not able to go places on her own. When Vun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On December 4th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $253 procedure. She shared, "I hope after surgery I can see better and be able to recognize my grandchildren."

Chantha is a retired merchant from Preah Vihear province in northern Cambodia. She is 64 years old with three children and five grandchildren. Her husband passed away recently so she moved in with her daughter, who sells clothes in the local market. At home, she likes to cook food for her grandchildren and listen to Buddhist radio. About one year ago, Chantha developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. When Chantha learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for seven hours seeking treatment. On April 18th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Chantha is able to contribute $75 but needs an additional $178 to fund this procedure. She shared, "After surgery, I hope I can see clearly and help more around the house and take care of my grandchildren."

Wellen is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. She is a mother of nine children: five boys and four girls. She is married and is the second born in a family of 12 children, but two of her siblings have passed on. Wellen studied up to elementary school, but she was unable to complete her schooling due to finances. She does small-scale farming together with her husband to care for their family. She carried nine previous healthy pregnancies up to term. The last two deliveries were done by C-section due to difficulties with labor. All her children are doing well, and some are in school. She is carrying her tenth pregnancy and attending antenatal care at our facility. She appeals for support as she does not have the finances to pay for the C-section. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Wellen undergo a C-Section on March 5th. This procedure will cost $241, and Wellen needs your support. Wellen says, "After the delivery, I hope to return to farming and with the capital from my yields, I'll be able to start a retail shop in the future."
