Partner for Surgery is a non-profit on the front lines of medical care in rural Guatemala.

Tens of thousands of Guatemalan children and their families have received health education and medical treatment through Partner for Surgery since it was founded in 2001. PFS keeps online records of every patient it treats and uses the data to monitor health outcomes in the communities where it works.

Partner for Surgery’s work has been acknowledged by its inclusion in the Catalogue for Philanthropy, Rotary International grant awards and humanitarian award, and a five-star “Great Non-Profit” rating. All of PFS’ financial information is publicly available online.

Sergio is a sweet 6-month-old baby boy who was born with a cleft lip and palate. Sergio's family lives in a remote community two hours away from the nearest health center. Fortunately, a Partner for Surgery community health promoter brought tiny Sergio to the center for medical attention. He was 15 days old and weighed only 2.7 pounds. Sergio's family is extremely supportive. They hope he will grow up healthy and strong, but his cleft lip and palate make it impossible for him to nurse properly. Without surgery, Sergio won't be able to get proper nutrition to grow. As he approaches his first birthday, the surgery becomes ever more timely as he learns to speak. The surgery Sergio needs will cost $480. It will enable Sergio to get the proper nutrition he needs to grow into a healthy toddler.

Edy is a cheerful and energetic 13-year-old from Guatemala. For the past three years, Edy has suffered from an inguinal hernia. After walking several kilometers from his rural community to a local health center, physicians advised Edy that he must have the hernia removed. Edy loves to run and play soccer, but his condition leaves him unable to play with his friends. His father explains the great pain he feels in witnessing his son’s suffering. Unfortunately, Edy's family is too poor to afford his procedure on their own. Partner for Surgery is hoping to raise $350 to fund Edy’s surgery costs. Your contributions will provide him with proper treatment and the opportunity for the happy, healthy life every child deserves!
