Aye is a 13-month-old baby girl from Burma, who lives with her mother, grandparents, and two uncles.
When Aye’s mother was seven months pregnant with her, an ultrasound revealed a small mass on the back of her head. Aye was diagnosed with a meningocele - a small, fluid-filled cyst, which protrudes through a gap in the spine.
Over time, Aye’s mother has noticed that the mass on her daughter’s head has gradually grown. The mass hurts when touched, which causes Aye to cry often and sleep poorly. Aye [had a CT scan of the mass](https://watsi.org/profile/9b23d019c89e-aye) done through our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF), on January 26, 2017, and the doctors are now eager to operate on her.
The surgery to drain the cyst of excess fluid will prevent further infection, swelling, and damage to the spinal cord.
Back at BCMF, Aye is now scheduled to undergo meningocele repair surgery on May 19. Her family is requesting $1,500 to cover the total cost of Aye's operation.
