“It is so sad to see my little son in pain. I’ll be very glad when I see him recover from treatment," says the father of Caleb, a five-day-old boy from Kenya. Caleb has spina bifida, also known as a neural tube defect, that caused an open cyst on his back. If untreated Caleb is likely to develop an infection, tethered cord, or kyphoscoliosis, which is an irregular curvature of the spine. Caleb’s parents have not been able to raise funds for Caleb’s surgery and are worried about their only child. With $805 our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, will be able to provide Caleb with spina bifida closure surgery. This will help prevent infection and any possibility of tethered cord or kyphoscoliosis development. Together, we can help Caleb grow up healthy!

Esther is a 24-year-old woman with pre-cancerous lesions on her cervix. If left untreated, these lesions could turn into full-blown, untreatable cervical cancer. Fortunately, Esther’s doctors are confident that by removing the pre-cancerous lesions they can “eliminate the risk of future spread of cancer.” When Esther was 12 and in her last year of primary school, she got pregnant. She dropped out of school to raise her daughter, marking the end of her education. Esther is now married with four children. Because of her lack of education, she can only work odd jobs. Her husband makes a modest income working on a farm. Esther was first diagnosed with cervical dysplasia at 20, but she and her husband were unable to raise the money required to have her condition treated. Esther loves her children and she wants to get healthy so she can give them the kind of life she wishes she had. We want to fund her treatment so she has the chance to do it.

David is a 1-year-old boy from Guatemala who was born with a rare birth defect that will severely limit his quality of life if it’s not corrected. For his first year of life, David’s stool has been leaving his body through his abdomen, where doctors redirected his bowel at birth because he was born without an anus. This has resulted in multiple infections, persistent dehydration, and malnourishment. The doctors in Guatemala can perform surgery on David to allow him to function normally, but we need to raise $895 to pay for it! David’s father recently died from an aggressive cancer and his mother cannot afford to pay for David’s medical care. Let’s come together and get David the money he needs to have this surgery!
