"As Angelina kept growing, so did the mass," says our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). "Despite her condition, Angelina is an active and happy baby." Seven-month-old Angelina is from Tanzania, and was born with a closed myelomeningocele -- a mass on her lower back which can rupture anytime. If it were to rupture, AMHF tells us, the loss of cerebral spinal fluid would be life-threatening for her. For $1100, AMHF can operate on Angelina and remove the mass. She will no longer have the condition and her family will not need worry about a potential rupture. Her parents work hard selling maize and millet to support the family, but cannot come up with the funds for her surgery. “It is our great hope that our daughter will get the right treatment to remove the swelling on her lower back as it keeps growing bigger and bigger," says Angelina's mother. "We want her to be able to crawl, walk and continue with normal growth like the rest of our children so that later on she can also go to school."

“If I can only get well again! I hope to expand my small grocery business so that I can support my children better; I am their only hope,” shares Jane, a 39-year-old woman from Kenya. Jane is a single mother and sells vegetables at the roadside near her home to support her two children. Since May 2014, Jane has been experiencing continuous and irregular uterine bleeding caused by noncancerous tumors, or fibroids, in Jane's uterus. Due to the bleeding masses in her uterus, Jane is now at risk for severe anemia. The fibroids will continue to grow, affecting surrounding organs. Doctors at our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF), have recommended a total abdominal hysterectomy, a surgery Jane is unable to afford. We can fund a successful surgery for $790. “We expect after a total abdominal hysterectomy, Jane will recover completely,” describes AMHF doctors. “She will be relieved from the excessive bleeding and the growth of the fibroids will be stopped.” Let’s help Jane move forward with her life!

Milka is a four-year-old girl living in Tanzania with her parents and little brother. “A year ago, she put her hand into a small basin which was full of hot water without knowing that the water was very hot. Her left hand was severely burned, but luckily she was rushed to the hospital and started treatment immediately. It took a while for Milka’s wound to heal and in the end she developed contractures on two of her fingers” describes our medical partner, African Healthcare Foundation. Her parents do what they can to provide for their children, but they simply do not make enough to pay for Milka’s medical treatment. Contractures are small nodules formed in the fibrous tissue beneath the skin. The tightening caused by these nodules can result in curling of the fingers. Our medical partners expect that with the treatment to release these contractures, “Milka will be able to use her hand properly, allowing her to hold things and play with other children.” “Milka is not happy when other children pass comments about her hand and we have noticed that it drives her away from playing with other children. We hope that her fingers can be straightened to allow our daughter to live a happy and normal life,” Milka’s father tells us.
