Sambath is an 85-year-old retired rice farmer. Her husband and young son both unfortunately passed during the Khmer Rouge. She currently lives with her niece, who is a hair dresser. Sambath enjoys listening to monks pray on the radio. Two years ago, Sambath developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her to experience blurry vision, light sensitivity, and eye tearing. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own. When Sambath learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for one hour seeking treatment. On August 1st, doctors will perform cataract surgery and place an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help funding this $253 procedure. Sambath says, "After surgery, I hope my eye can see well again so I can go outside on my own."
