Ndaiya is an active and friendly six-year-old boy who lives in Tanzania with his family of five. "He likes playing with an old tire; he rolls it around and runs with it. He also enjoys playing with cars," shares our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF).
Although Ndaiya is active, he was born with a rare genital malformation known as hypospadias. The condition is categorized by a defect in the urethra, which can lead to urinary tract infections and if left untreated, infertility.
Ndaiya’s father is a livestock keeper, and his mother has a small business selling necklaces, bracelets, and other trinkets. What they earn is used to support not only their own family, but also other extended family members. They’ve struggled for a long time to save enough money to cover the cost of the operation that their son needs.
For $837, Ndaiya will be able to undergo hypospadias repair surgery. The funds will cover the operation itself, as well as 12 days of critical hospital care, lab work, and medication.
With successful treatment, Ndaiya will be out of the risk of future complications such as infection and infertility.
