Andrew is a 79-year-old man from the Central Region of Malawi. He is a farmer who lives with his wife and extended family. When not working on the farm, Andrew loves to spend time with his grandchildren. For six years, Andrew has been in pain due to an enlarged prostate. The pain sometimes prevents him from working. On February 7, he will undergo a prostate removal surgery at our medical partner's hospital, Nkhoma Hospital. Our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, is requesting $726 to fund his care. Andrew says, “I am so happy to finally get surgery.”

Haswell is an energetic 72-year-old farmer from a village located in the Central Region of Malawi. In his 72 years, Haswell and his wife have been blessed with six children and thirteen grandchildren. He spends much of his day working on building projects. In his down time, his favorite thing to do is talk with his wife, who he affectionately refers to as "my one beloved." Three weeks ago, Haswell started experiencing urinary dysfunction. These troubling symptoms brought Haswell to our medical partner's care center, Nkhoma Hospital, where he was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate. If left untreated, this condition can lead to urinary retention, bladder infections or stones, or kidney damage. Physicians have recommended a minimally invasive procedure known as a prostate resection, in which part of the prostate will be removed. Our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, has requested $726 to fund Haswell's procedure, scheduled for February 2. Haswell is looking forward to his surgery, saying, "I am happy to have surgery. I will have peace of mind".

John is a 66-year-old farmer from Malawi. He lives with his wife. Together, they have ten children and twelve grandchildren. He works as a maize farmer and also keeps chickens. When not working, John likes to spend time at his church and with his friends. For the past three months John has been experiencing urinary dysfunction. He was diagnosed with benign prostatic hyperplasia, a condition in which the prostate gland is enlarged and blocks the urethra, making it difficult to go to the restroom. On February 16, John will undergo a prostatectomy—a procedure in which part of the prostate is removed—at our medical partner's care center, Nkhoma Hospital. Our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, is asking for $733 to fund John's hospital stay, physician's fees, and medication. When told about the Watsi program, John and his family were overjoyed. "When I get better I can farm again and enjoy my time in church!" says John.

Moffat is a 56-year-old farmer from the village of Breiekeni, located in central Malawi. Moffat lives with his wife, and together they have five children and four grandchildren. Besides working his farm, Moffat keeps his own goats and enjoys being with his wife. One month ago, Moffat started experiencing urinary difficulty, which hindered his work. At our medical partner's care center, Nkhoma Hospital, doctors discovered Moffat has an enlarged prostate. He needs surgery to allow him to live his life normally. With the help of our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, Moffat is scheduled to receive surgery on January 24. He will undergo a prostate resection to remove part of his prostate. He needs help to fund this $726 procedure. Once Moffat has his prostate surgery, he is expected to make a full recovery. He says, "I give thanks to Watsi that I am able to go to surgery!"

George is an 80-year-old man. He and his wife, Peace, live in a small town in Uganda. They have nine children and 20 grandchildren. George has worked hard all his life and still does a bit of digging in the garden. He likes to weave mats, which he sells to help buy supplies, like soap and sugar. George and his wife enjoy spending time with their grandchildren and sharing stories about the early days in their villages. For the past four months, George has experienced pain from a swollen prostate gland, which has made passing urine very difficult. His doctor recommends removing the gland. George is scheduled to receive treatment on January 12, and our medical partner is requesting $314 to help fund his hospital stay and his surgery. “If I could, I would write to the donors to say thank you very much for their help," says George. "I will ask God to bless them.”
