Enock is a talkative 16-year-old student and the fourth child in a family of five. He just completed his primary school education and he is currently waiting to begin his secondary studies in July. His parents are farmers in his village where they plant maize and beans in their small farm for their family to eat. His elder siblings did not finish school due to insufficient finances at home to proceed with their education. His father has epilepsy and this has affected the family's daily activities and general production of resources for the family. They don’t have a permanent house but live in a mud house with grass as its roof. Two days ago, Enock went to get medical assistance after falling from a tree while he was cutting down tree branches. He had pain in his left hand and doctors observed that he had a left distal humerus comminuted fracture. Because he had so much pain, Enock was admitted to receive pain medications. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help him to fully heal. On May 25th, Enock will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation. Enock will be free from the pain, he will be able to use his hand again, and resume school and helping out at home. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,016 to fund this procedure. Enock says, “My hope is to get treated, and be well again.”

Sokhom is a 60-year-old fish seller with three daughters and six grandchildren. Sokhom lives with her eldest daughter who also sells fish. Nowadays, Sokhom stays home and cares for her grandchildren. She also enjoys listening to the monks pray on the radio. Four years ago, Sokhom developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurry vision, sensitivity to light, and tearing. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Sokhom learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for two hours with her daughter seeking treatment. On May 18th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure. Sokhom shared, "I hope I feel comfortable with my vision so I can get around outside on my own, do my housework, and help my daughter take care of her children."

Alory is a 56-year-old married father of three daughters and one son. In his free time, Alory enjoys watching political news and Khmer movies on TV. On June 2nd, Alory was in a bicycle accident. He visited a hospital where they took an x-ray and told him he would need surgery on his knee. However, the hospital did not have the instruments to perform the procedure. It is difficult for him to walk because he can not straighten his left leg without pain. He then visited our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), and was diagnosed with a left patella fracture. On June 7th, surgeons will perform an open reduction surgery to heal his fracture and allow him to walk easily again. Now, CSC is requesting $412 to fund Alory's procedure. Alory shared, "I hope I can return to my work soon when I am healed and can walk again."
