Osbert is a 5 year old boy, living with his parents and two siblings in Uganda. His mother is a small-scale farmer, while his father works as a school cook. They own a three-room mud house for shelter.
Since birth, Osbert has had an umbilical hernia. While he had a big umbilicus when he was born, his mother thought that it was normal, so nothing was done. However, a few days ago, Osbert began to have pain around the umbilicus, and it looked as if it had increased in size. Additionally, it was very hard to the touch. His parents brought him to the hospital, where the doctor recommended surgery in order to make certain that Osbert doesn't suffer strangulation of the hernia.
Osbert's family cannot afford the cost of the procedure. However, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, has stepped up to help. On October 11th, Osbert will undergo hernia repair surgery at Rushoroza Hospital, after which he will be able to resume a healthy and comfortable life. Osbert and his family need your support to fund this procedure, which will cost $170.
Osbert’s mother says: “I pray that my son gets well through surgery. I believe he will live a better life and be able to continue with education to higher levels.”
