Sophy is a 41-year-old farmer from Cambodia. He and his wife have been married for 15 years and have two sons and two daughters, all of whom are in school. He mainly grows vegetables, and his wife takes them to market to sell. In his free time, he likes watching boxing matches, going to concerts, and taking care of his children. In August 2020, Sophy was in a motor vehicle accident that caused a fracture of his left wrist. He went to a provincial hospital and was provided with a cast, but it did not properly heal his fracture. It is difficult for him to use this hand, and he is in chronic pain. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On October 13th, Sophy will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will cost $465. This procedure will relieve his pain and help him to use his hand again. Sophy shared, "I want to do my work with no pain so that I can easily take care of my family, and I hope I can recover from this surgery quickly."

Busingye is an assistant lecturer and a mother of four. All of her children a still in school: Her first born is 21 years old and in secondary school class six, the second born is 19 years old and in secondary school class four, the third born is 15 years old and in secondary school class two, while her last born is seven years old and in primary school class two. She is an assistant lecturer at Uganda college of commerce while her husband is a secondary school teacher. Their main struggle currently is school fees because their salaries cannot solely take care of the fees and provide other family basic needs. In recent months, Busingye has been experiencing a lot of pain during menstruation and when urinating, and also having abdominal pains and backache. She has now been diagnosed with fibroids. She needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $228 to fund Busingye's surgery. On September 8th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner's care center. Once recovered, Busingye will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain and her quality of life will improve. Busingye says, “I hope to live a normal life again after the surgery since I will be able to resume comfortably my normal duties as an assistant lecturer.”

Tukahirwa is a 50-year-old farmer from Uganda. Tukahirwa is married and a mother to five children. She has three daughters and two sons. Two of her daughters are nurses, and the other one is married and is a small scale farmer. Tukahirwa's two sons are still studying, in senior four and senior six respectively. She and her husband both earn a living from small scale farming. They normally grow food crops for home consumption, but often sell off any surplus to generate an income for the family. Two years ago, Tukahirwa started experiencing lower abdominal pain. Upon seeking care, she was diagnosed with uterine fibroids. Tukahirwa needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $219 to fund Tukahirwa's surgery. On January 5th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner's care center. Once recovered, Tukahirwa will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Tukahirwe shared, “I hope to continue with farming after I am well again.”

Eth is a 47-year-old farmer from Cambodia. She and her husband, who have been married for 25 years, both farm rice to earn an income for their family. They have three sons, two daughters, and three grandchildren. She also enjoys watching TV, feeding the chickens, and taking care of her grandchildren. In April 2018 Eth was in a motor accident that caused a severe fracture of her right femur. She had a nail put in her leg after the accident and her wound and the fracture have healed. Her leg has good function, now the pin needs to be removed. If the nail is left permanently, she could development an infection or lose mobility. Eth travel six hours with her husband to reach the hospital. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On September 10, Eth will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will cost $230. After the nail is removed she will not experience any pain and there will not be risk of future infection. Eth said, "my family is worried about my right leg but they trust the surgeons here and told me come here for my treatment. I hope I will have good result and my leg will be normal and healthy."
