Ngwe is a 46-year-old from Burma. She lives with her husband and 16-year-old son in Winkabar Village, Kyain Seikgyi Township, Karen State. Her son studies in grade 6 while her husband works as a day labour tapping rubber trees. Ngwe stopped working three years ago because of her health problems. Ngwe was diagnosed with a heart condition that involves a malformation of the mitral valve, the valve between the left atrium and left ventricle. This valve controls the flow of blood, but certain conditions may cause blood to flow backward or the valve to narrow. Currently, Ngwe feels tired and sometimes she has heart palpitation when she is active. She cannot walk long distances. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund a mitral valve replacement for Ngwe. The treatment is scheduled to take place on October 31st and, once completed, will hopefully allow her to live more comfortably. “When I recover fully, I want to meditate [at the temple]. I also want to help out with household chores and make merit through various activities,” said Ngwe.

Since birth, Sim has had a malformation of her spine, which she worries is slowly getting worse with time. Her scoliosis causes her pain in her legs, difficulty sleeping, and she is unable to sit for long periods of time. With surgery, Sim will be able to walk again with ease and will be able to sit and sleep comfortably. She will not have to worry that her condition will worsen, and she can return to her work. Sim enjoys watching television, listening to the news, and helping with the housework in her spare time.

Rashid is a casual laborer from Kenya. He is the first born in a family of three. Rashid comes from a very poor family from Western Kenya, and came to Central Kenya (Limuru) to try and find a living. He has never been to school and so he searches for any casual work available especially in construction sites. About three months ago, when he was up a building he slipped and fell from the third floor of a building they were constructing and sustained fracture of the left humerus and a sprain on the back bone. He is unable to work or use his left hand. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. On September 4th, Rashid will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation. This procedure will help his hand heal well and he will be able to work again Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $998 to fund this procedure.

Suy is a 37-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. In his spare time, he likes to listen to music, watch television, and help his family with the housework. Three years ago, Suy started experiencing chronic arthritis in his right knee. It causes him pain and it is difficult for him to rotate his knee. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On August 5, Suy will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will cost $430. Surgery will help secure the knee bone and allow Suy to walk without any pain or difficulty. He says, "I hope that I no longer suffer from any pain and I will be able to walk normally again."

Eman is a baby from Kenya. She was born with an anorectal malformation, a congenital abnormality that leads to a complete or partial intestinal blockage. She needs to undergo a series of procedures to eliminate bowel dysfunction. Eman is scheduled to undergo surgery to correct her condition on August 2. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,327 to cover the total cost of Eman's procedure and care. After her recovery, Eman will no longer experience bowel dysfunction or be at risk of developing health complications in the future. “Thank you for offering to help me,” says Eman’s mother.

Chheang is a teenager from Cambodia. He was born with scoliosis, which is progressing with age and making it difficult to sit in school for long periods, and causing a lot of discomfort. Surgery can help correct the position of his spine, and prevent further worsening of the condition. Spinal surgery is scheduled for June 6 and will cost $1,500. In his free time, he likes to read books, watch TV, listen to music, and go outside with his family. He hopes to one day become a doctor when he grows up.

Kasinjeni is a farmer and father to six from Malawi. During this free time, he likes to watch football and spend time with his 18 grandchildren. Since January 2019, Kasinjeni has been experiencing urinary difficulty and pain. These symptoms are caused by an enlarged prostate, a condition called benign prostatic hyperplasia. He needs to undergo a prostate resection surgery, a procedure in which surgeons will remove part of the enlarged gland. Our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, is requesting $733 to fund Kasinjeni's surgery. On April 9, he will undergo prostate surgery at Nkhoma Hospital, our medical partner's care center. The requested money pays for supplies, medications, and two weeks of hospital stay. He is happy about the surgery and his family is thankful. He is looking forward to working again without pain. He says, "Thank you Watsi for this assistance."

Thearo is a young man from Cambodia. Ten years ago, Thearo's spine started to curve, which is progressing with age, making it difficult to sit in school for long periods, and causing a lot of discomfort. Surgery can help correct the position of his spine, and prevent further worsening of the condition. Fortunately, surgery is scheduled for March 14. Our medical partner needs help raising $1,500 to fund this procedure. Thearo hopes to go back to school and become a teacher one day. He says, "I hope that after surgery, I will no longer have any pain and will be able to go back to school without any discomfort."

Benson is a laborer from Kenya. He is married and has a young child. In January of this year, Benson was in a motorcycle accident. His right leg was broken twice. He is not able to move or walk and is in chronic pain. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. On February 12, Benson will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation. This procedure will help him walk again and provide for his family. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,451 to fund this procedure. Benson says, “I am worried I may lose my leg if I am not treated and that means I cannot take care of my young family.”

Vanny is a fruit farmer from Cambodia. She has three sons, two daughters, and three grandchildren. She likes to watch Thai dramas on TV and spend time with her family. Four months ago, Vanny developed a cataract in each eye, causing her blurry vision, burning, and clouded lenses. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Vanny learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On January 9, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $398 procedure. She says, "I hope my vision improves so I can return to work on the farm soon."

Srey Leak is a factory worker from Cambodia. She has one brother and two sisters. She likes to play games online in her free time. Three years ago, Srey Leak had an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in her left ear to perforate. For this reason, Srey Leak experiences headache, pain, and ear discharge. She cannot communicate easily with others. Srey Leak traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On December 12, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in her left ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $423 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. She says, "I hope my headache and ear pain is gone soon."

Alex is a child from Kenya. In early November, he fell and sustained a closed fracture on his right upper arm. If not treated, Alex will continue to experience pain, and the fracture may not heal correctly. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. On November 13, Alex will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation. Alex will be able to use his hand again. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $998 to fund this procedure. “We hope the surgery will be successful,” says Alex’s mother.
