Nshemereirwe is a middle-aged woman who works hard in her piece of land to make ends meet for her family. She was not able to bear children of her own but is a stepmother to six children. For the past six months, Nshemereirwe has been experiencing chronic lower abdominal pain and menorrhagia. She has been diagnosed with uterine fibroids. She tried managing the pain with tablets but with no improvements. When Nshemereirwe was reviewed at our medical partner's care center Rushoroza Hospital, doctors recommended that she have a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is requesting $228 to fund Nshemereirwe's procedure so that she can be treated. On July 10th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner's care center. Once recovered, Nshemereirwe will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Nshemereirwe shares, “The back pains are troubling and I hope to be treated and resume farming as soon as I recover.”
