SHAWN joined Watsi on February 20th, 2019. Three months ago, SHAWN became the 4661st member to automatically support a new Watsi patient every month. Since then, 508 more people have become monthly donors! SHAWN's most recent donation supported Teresiah, a woman from Kenya, to fund thyroid surgery.
SHAWN has funded healthcare for 3 patients in 3 countries.
Teresiah is a woman from Kenya. She is married and has four kids. Teresiah started to experience troubling symptoms in 2017. She was diagnosed with a goiter. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Teresiah receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on April 14 at our medical partner's care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $625, and she and her family need help raising money. Teresiah says, “I pray that Watsi will help me to be operated soon before so that I may not experience problems again. I also need to be well to take care of my children who are still young.”
Mopiani is a boy from Tanzania. He is the fourth in a family of five children. Early last year, Mopiani developed a swelling on his mouth. The swelling has been increasing in size, making eating difficult. Mopiani traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On March 5, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Mopiani needs help to raise $689 to fund this procedure. Mopiani’s father says, “Please help our son.”
Lister is a 62-year old farmer from Malawi. Lister lives with his wife. Together they have six children and also six grandchildren. In his free time he likes to read books. Since 2016, Lister has been experiencing pain and urinary difficulty. These symptoms are caused by an enlarged prostate, a condition called benign prostatic hyperplasia. He needs to undergo a prostate resection surgery, a procedure in which surgeons will remove part of the enlarged gland. Our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, is requesting $733 to fund Lister's surgery. On February 12, he will undergo prostate surgery at Nkhoma Hospital, our medical partner's care center. The requested money pays for supplies, medications, and two weeks of hospital stay. Lister and his family are very excited he will have this surgery. He says, "Thank you to this program for the assistance."
