William is a 63-year-old subsistence farmer from Kenya. He is third born in a family of eight siblings and is married with five children. William has never received an education but enrolled himself in an adult education class where he learned how to read and write.
He has a piece of land in a hilly area where he grows miraa plants for an income along with maize and beans which he harvests for home consumption since they are less productive. He has one cow and three goats and built a timber house with two rooms, using electricity as his main source of energy. The road to his home has poor drainage so it is impassable during rainy season and he has poor means of transport.
Last year, William experienced a painful inguinal hernia which prevented him from working. Fortunately, on February 22nd, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner’s care center.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $733 to fund William’s surgery. Once completed, this procedure should allow him to live without pain.
William is hoping for a successful treatment so he can continue working on his farm and taking care of his family.
