Richard is a 70-year-old man from Uganda. He studied up to third grade, but he could not complete his schooling due to finances because his parents passed away at an early age. As the elder son, he was obliged to take care of his siblings. He is now married and has seven children, six of whom have their own families. He and his wife work as farmers and own a four-room mud house. During his free time, he enjoys watching football.
Three months ago, Richard began to have difficulty in passing stool. He had surgery in December 2023 to remove part of his colon, after which he needed to use stoma bags. He visited Rushoroza Hospital for treatment and was diagnosed with a gangrenous gut. He needs surgery to prevent this potentially fatal condition from getting worse, but he is unable to afford it.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Richard receive treatment. He is scheduled to undergo a curative laparotomy, a surgery to remove the damaged intestine, on February 22nd at our medical partner’s care center. This procedure will cost $297, and Richard and his family need your support.
Richard says, “I believe I will have a successful surgery. I will continue with farming after complete recovery. May God bless you.”
