Kyden is a sweet four-year-old boy. He has an older sibling who is eight years old. His mother is a homemaker, while his father does phone repairs. The family shared that their income is inconsistent, and they have not had national health insurance since 2018. They requested assistance for their son’s surgery cost.
Kyden has had a proboscoid umbilical hernia since birth. In December 2020, he started experiencing stomach pains, so his parents brought him to the children’s hospital at our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), for review. Surgeons determined he would need to return for hernia repair surgery in a year. Kyden’s family waited a year and then returned for his surgery, which will take place on January 5th. Upon recovery, he will be able to live more comfortably. AMH is requesting $585 to fund Kyden’s surgery.
Kyden’s mother shared, “This protrusion on the stomach keeps growing and looks uncomfortable. This surgery will help rectify this condition that has worried us a lot.”

Kyden underwent hernia repair surgery.
Kyden’s hernia repair was a success!
Kyden’s treatment was completed with no problems arising during or after surgery. After surgery, he was discharged to go home, where he will continue to recover until his mom brings him back to the hospital for a routine follow-up. This surgery has helped the swelling in Kyden’s stomach to disappear, and his pain will only continue to subside as he moves toward a full recovery. Now, Kyden will be able to grow up happier and healthier knowing he won’t have to worry about his condition worsening, and instead use his time to play and run around with his friends without pain and discomfort. We’re rooting for you, Kyden!
Kyden’s mother says: “We were very much worried about our son’s condition and we are so glad that he is treated.”
